Caminito del Rey narrow path suspended above El Chorro gorge Málaga

Carved into the sheer cliffs of the Sierra Huma, the Caminito del Rey winds through the breathtaking Gaitanes Gorge between the villages of Álora and Ardales. The path stretches for roughly three kilometres — in places barely ten metres wide — with the Guadalhorce river running up to 100 metres directly below your feet.

The route was originally built in the early 20th century as a workers' access path between the Salto del Chorro and Salto del Gaitanejo hydroelectric stations. Traces of the original walkway are still visible along the way — a fascinating glimpse into the industrial history hidden within this wild landscape.

Expect your heart to race and your jaw to drop in equal measure. The Caminito del Rey sits within one of the largest protected natural spaces in the province of Málaga — and every step of the route delivers scenery so dramatic it simply has to be experienced to be believed.
